Quentin just can’t get over how beautiful our upbred Boran heifers are looking this year! 10 years in the making.

When we purchased our first Boran bull Frontier SPJ 07-112 (last photo) in October 2010 we started using him on our Angus type commercial cattle with the aim of upbreeding our cattle herd to pure Boran. Quentin quickly realized that this would take a very long time to achieve so he made the decision to invest in a few high quality pure bred Boran cows including our foundation dam Eve TLM 02-43 and our signature cow Jackie MHB 05-08. Shortly thereafter the opportunity arose to purchase the entire Mollshoop Boran stud, which gave us an incredible foundation for our Boran herd. The upbred herd kept going quietly in the background with our Vastrap bred Boran bulls doing a sterling job year after year. 10 years later it’s incredible to see the calves of our upbred animals looking as good as the offspring in our main Boran herd. Wow, it’s amazing what one can achieve with time and patience!!! It also shows how important it is to use the best quality bulls one can afford to achieve this quality and consistency. Measurement and strict selection as practiced across all our different cattle herds are also critical factors that have contributed to the ongoing improvement in the quality of these animals.
