The Granddam of the Ginger bloodline is KPO 303, which is also the damline of one of South Africa’s most famous sires, HVT 97-017 (known as 717). KPO 303 is one of Francois Smit’s favourite cows and among the very best Ol Pejeta cows. Two sires ( K6K 1711 and NDA 9) were used on KPO 303 to form Mollshoop Boran’s GINGER bloodline. As can be seen from the photo below, NDA 9 is a truly impressive animal! For those looking for larger framed animals that carry a lot of beef, this is the line to look for.
A great advantage of the Ginger line is the fact that neither NDA 9 or K6K 1711 are related to the two most common bloodlines, namely K6K 2459 and KPO 786.

Ginger MHB 06-48 (KPO 303 x NDA 9), the full sister to Goliat MHB 06-47 and Griffen MHB 06-24, was sold to Tom Breytenbach of Brenaisance Wine and Stud for R400 000 in 2012. She flushed extremely well with 24 embryos by Rustin MHB 06-30 and 19 embryos by Khan MHB 04-27 in her last two flushes at Vastrap.
Unfortunately, Ginger MHB 06-48’s full sister Ginger MHB 06-46 died before the Mollshoop animals came to Vastap Boran.
The quality of offspring from the Ginger bloodline remains exceptional with Ginger TZ 13-05 judged the best heifer at the 2015 Boran Expo and her full sister, Ginger VST 13-28 reaching a record price of R170’000 at the 2015 Vastrap Auction (sold to Rohan & Dylan Meintjies of Sterkfontein Borane).
